Our Unique AR Network
The Gauntlet Group Appointed Representative Network has been awarded an Insurance Times award in the Business Partner of the Year category. This recognises our commitment to helping our ARs succeed, when they become self-employed AR insurance brokers partnering with Gauntlet.
We leverage our unique status – as both a long-established commercial insurance broker (since 1994) and an appointed representative network principal (since 2009) – in a variety of ways. All are to the advantage of our start-up brokers, de-authorising brokers, or those appointed representatives switching networks.
Buying power and risk placement
Our size as a commercial insurance broker gives us a lot of buying clout in the insurance markets and great insurance market reach. We can offer access to over 200 insurers and facilities, plus many schemes available to us, by virtue of being members of Brokerbility.
We also have long-established insurer relationships, which we are happy to share with our appointed representatives. We have no issue in providing our ARs with direct access to insurers.
There are no barriers erected here in terms of the size of risk our AR brokers can place. Whether they want to service small, medium or large risks, we provide the policies and the broking support.
Income and lead generation for appointed representatives
We also recognise that incremental income is extremely useful to an AR, especially when they first establish their own insurance business. To assist with generating this income, we provide an online quote and buy facility, which can sit on their own website. This enables them to transact e-trade business via Acturis’s award-winning software, for seven types of cover:

With our own direct sales team in-house, we can test sales campaigns and lead-generation tactics and then roll out the most successful approaches to appointed representatives. We will also provide leads that we believe ARs can service.
The appointed representative journey and exit route
Our founder, Roger Gaunt, has been on exactly the same journey as our appointed representatives – from start-up to flourishing commercial insurance broking business. He understands exactly what support an AR broker requires, in order to grow their insurance book and achieve profitability. All of this knowledge is channelled into our on-going network development programme.
We are also the only major AR network that can provide appointed representatives with an exit route, when they wish to sell their brokerage. Gauntlet Group will always enter into discussions about buying the book from an AR who wants to sell or retire. Even more attractive to many is that Gauntlet can also tailor the exit agreement, allowing an AR to stagger their step-down from their brokerage, across whatever timescale suits.
Who does our appointed representative network suit?
Our unique AR network is probably the one that will serve you best, if you are a high-flying insurance account executive or dedicated directly authorised local broker wishing to have better market access, enhanced support and IT systems, and reduced stress, by becoming an AR.
